Sloping Block Home Design Under Construction – Lake Macquarie

Sloping blocks can be challenging for some builders, but the team at Freedom Homes have been building new homes on sloping sites around Newcastle, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Valley region for over 20 years. The new home featured below, is a modern skillion roof design, located in an enviable Lake Macquarie waterfront location.

This popular design style suits open plan living, with the beauty of high raked ceilings adding some design interest, whilst also allowing more natural light into the home. Our quality steel frame system, combined with James Hardie fibre cement external cladding and aluminium windows, means that the home owners won’t need to worry about termites destroying this new home.

Now that the windows and doors are installed, you can see how well the large expanses of glass frame the beautiful lake views. To create an indoor outdoor connection and to continue to maximise the water view, bifold doors were chosen to access the large raised undercover entertaining space to the rear of the home.

When it comes to window glazing options, the louvre windows complement the style of the home and allow the home owners to direct lovely cool breezes into the home during warmer months.

When complete, the interior of the home will be modern contemporary throughout, featuring a designer kitchen with quality stone benchtop, a large walk in pantry, ample storage space and quality cooking appliances. This home will comprise of four (4) good sized bedrooms, study, large open plan living space, over-sized double garage and lots of built-in storage.

Lighting choices include LED downlights to help minimise power consumption and ceiling fans to assist when it comes to cooling during summer. The owner opted not to install air conditioning due to the lovely lake breezes and the design of the home, capturing the winter sun for the cold days and using the louvered windows on the hot summer days, plus these lucky home owners also have the pool to cool off in on the 40 degree days.

What are the benefits of building a Steel Frame Home?

There are many benefits to using steel – the question you should ask yourself is why wouldn’t you build with steel. Read on to find out why you should consider a steel frame home for your next building project.

Lightness, Strength and Durability

Steel frames are lighter and stronger than steel and they offer greater flexibility than timber in construction and design. Steel is easier to erect than timber and it is more consistent to work with. Your home is your greatest investment and it’s reassuring to know that a steel frame won’t buckle or bow – that it will be straight and true for a very, very long time. Each piece of timber you use in a frame is different from another, due to exposure to the elements and natural variances. And later timber can become damp or rot. With steel you know every piece used in the frame will be the same. No bowing. No cupping. No warping.

Termite-resistant

One of the main reasons people look to build a steel frame home is because it is totally resistant to termite attack. The costs involved in repairing termite damage can be astronomical. On that basis alone it is hard to see why you wouldn’t choose steel framing for your house.

Fire Resistant

Using steel frames removes a proportion of combustible material in case of a house fire, providing peace of mind for home owners. There are other considerations when it comes to building on bush fire prone blocks – smart design, good product choice and selecting a builder who is experienced in building homes to suit these conditions will give you the best result.

Freedom Homes uses steel framing in all our construction. We know that a home built with one of our steel frames won’t sag, warp, twist or rot. The structural integrity of our frames means a stronger home for the entire life of the building, and peace of mind for home owners.

Choosing a style for your new home

Have you decided that you want to build a new home, but just can’t find what you are after? Or maybe you are confused after looking through countless number of display homes. Freedom Homes have over 25 years experience building new custom designed homes in Newcastle, Port Stephens & the Hunter Region, so we can look after the design and construction of your home for you.

Our team can help you incorporate the ideas you have gathered along the way and help you design whatever style of home you want . Being a custom home builder, we can build you anything you like. Below are some ideas and a few images to get you started.

Country Style Homes

Freedom homes can build you a traditional country style cottage on a smaller block of land, or we can build you a large homestead if you have an acreage property. Country style homes are generally more suited to semi-rural and rural areas, however you can still create a new home with a country cottage feel in a well-established area if you are willing to knock down an existing home and rebuild.

Contemporary Homes

Contemporary style homes are always very popular.  A contemporary modern home is a smart choice if you are considering re-selling the home at a later date. The simple clean lines and neutral tones will appeal to a broader market. With a contemporary home you can easily update the home to add some extra character if need be.

We have designed many gorgeous contemporary modern homes for home owners throughout the Hunter Region.

Traditional Homes

Many home owners still love the traditional homes with sandstock bricks, timber windows, gable roof design and the addition of feature fretwork. This style of home is still popular in areas like Cessnock, Morpeth and East Maitland as it fits in with the existing homes in the area.

Ultra Modern Homes

Home owners in Port Stephens and beach side suburbs such as Merewether often want a unique modern design to suit their waterside location.  Modern designs are also very popular in new land estates throughout the Hunter Region.

Design & Selection Process

Whether you have every detail etched in your mind of what your new home will look like, or have no idea at all, it doesn’t matter. Our experienced design team will help you design your new home and can assist you with any product and colour selections.

We can design your home using a mix of light weight construction products as seen on many modern homes such as boards and cladding with an iron roof, or we can design you a traditional home constructed of brick and tile – the choice is yours.

Ways to add character to a brand new home

When designing a home don’t forget to consider ways that you can personalise or add character to your new home.  If you want to create a home with lovely character and charm you will need to choose a custom design home builder who will allow you to incorporate different items in your home design.

A custom designed home builder will allow you the flexibility to select products and features that are important to you. Choosing the right builder is particularly important when it comes to country style homes or knock down and rebuild projects in well established older suburbs.

Features such as custom designed lead light windows, custom made front doors, marble sinks, antique re-purposed items can all look amazing in the right home.

Take a look at one of our recently completed new build projects below, featuring traditional lead light windows and timber flooring.

If you want to add some extra character to a modern contemporary style home you could consider using recycled hardwood timber for decking, or perhaps choose a unique custom made front door to personalise your home.

For a more traditional look you could consider staining timber architraves and skirting throughout your home rather than painting. Timber windows are another way to introduce a different style – they can be stained or painted depending on the look you are after.

Another way to add interest to your outdoor spaces is to use feature privacy screening or you could include an outdoor fan to suit the style of your home in the outdoor living area.  Carefully chosen lighting can also make a big impact on both the inside and outside of the home.

Our friendly team can help you navigate through your new home selections to help you achieve your dream home.  Visit www.freedomhomes.com.au or you can call us on 02 4964 8400.
